Microsoft’s Vision for Windows 11: An ‘AI-Native’ Operating System

Windows 11
Redesigned for the future — Windows 11 makes it happen.

Key Points

  • Microsoft is making AI a core part of its Windows 11 operating system. The goal is to create an “AI-native” platform.
  • New AI features will be deeply integrated through the Copilot assistant.
  • These include new voice, vision, and action capabilities to make the PC more hands-free.
  • At first, the most advanced new features will only be available on new “Copilot+ PCs.”

With Windows 10 now officially at its “end of life,” Microsoft is laying out its vision for the future of Windows 11, and it’s all about artificial intelligence. The company is no longer treating AI as an “add-on” but is instead working to make it a core, inseparable part of the operating system.

Microsoft’s goal is to turn Windows into a truly “AI-native” platform. “Windows is evolving into an AI-native platform: secure, scalable, and built for agentic work,” said Stefan Kinnestrand, a vice president at Microsoft.

What does this mean for you? It means the company’s Copilot AI assistant will be deeply woven into every part of Windows 11. New “breakthrough” AI experiences are coming soon, but at first, they’ll only be available to those who own a new “Copilot+ PC.”

The new features are all about making your computer a more proactive and hands-free assistant. “Copilot Voice” will let you use voice commands to automate tasks. “Copilot Vision” will allow the AI to see your screen in real-time to offer help and instructions. And “Copilot Action” will let the AI perform tasks for you, like opening apps or changing settings.

Microsoft’s big idea is to create a fully integrated ecosystem where you can “communicate and work with your PC – out loud.” The ultimate goal, the company says, is to “make technology feel invisible,” allowing you to focus on your work without being bogged down by the software.
