WhatsApp Expands ChatGPT Integration with Image and Voice Features

WhatsApp Introduces Long-Awaited Drafts Feature for Unfinished Messages

Key Points

  • WhatsApp now supports image uploads and voice message interactions with ChatGPT.
  • Users must add 1 (800) CHAT-GPT to their contacts to access the chatbot.
  • ChatGPT will respond to voice messages with text-based replies. Users can link their ChatGPT subscription (free, Plus, or Pro) within WhatsApp.
  • Meta is expanding AI-powered features across its messaging ecosystem.

WhatsApp has enhanced its integration with ChatGPT, providing users with more ways to interact with the AI chatbot within the app. The update allows users worldwide to upload images and send voice messages to ChatGPT, expanding beyond the text-based interactions initially available when the feature launched in December.

To access ChatGPT on WhatsApp, users need to add the number 1 (800) CHAT-GPT or 1 (800) 242-8478 to their contacts. With this integration, users can upload images directly to the chatbot, similar to the capabilities available when accessing ChatGPT externally. Voice messages can now be sent, and ChatGPT responds via text, offering a more natural and convenient way to interact with the AI assistant.

Another key enhancement introduced today is linking a ChatGPT subscription plan directly within WhatsApp, whether free, Plus, or Pro. This allows users to access more features and extend their usage without switching between different platforms.

This move aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of incorporating AI tools into its messaging ecosystem, including its own AI chatbot, also available in WhatsApp. WhatsApp’s expansion of AI functionality is part of a larger industry trend of integrating generative AI into widely used applications.

While some users may welcome these AI-driven enhancements, others may prefer messaging platforms that avoid AI entirely, such as Signal. However, Meta continues to develop AI-powered services, positioning WhatsApp as a central hub for messaging and AI-driven interactions.
