Taiwan’s Foxconn has launched its first large language model, dubbed “FoxBrain,” as part of its drive to harness artificial intelligence for enhanced manufacturing and supply chain management. The company, a major player in assembling Apple iPhones and producing Nvidia AI servers, revealed that FoxBrain was trained using 120 of Nvidia’s H100 GPUs and completed its training in roughly four weeks. Built on Meta’s Llama 3.1 architecture, FoxBrain is notable for being optimized for traditional Chinese and Taiwanese language styles, marking a significant development in the region’s AI capabilities.

Foxconn described FoxBrain as Taiwan’s inaugural large language model with reasoning capabilities designed specifically for internal applications. The model is engineered to support various tasks, including data analysis, decision support, document collaboration, mathematical computations, logical reasoning, problem-solving, and even code generation. Although early tests show a slight performance gap compared to China’s DeepSeek distillation model, Foxconn asserts that FoxBrain’s overall performance is close to world-class standards.

The company plans to expand FoxBrain’s applications by collaborating with technology partners to integrate the model into various sectors, such as manufacturing, supply chain management, and intelligent decision-making systems. Foxconn also intends to share open-source information about the model, promoting broader AI adoption in these industries.

Nvidia played a crucial role in the development of FoxBrain by providing technical consulting and support through its Taiwan-based supercomputer, “Taipei-1.” Located in Kaohsiung, Taipei-1 is the largest supercomputer in Taiwan and has been instrumental in powering the training process for this innovative chip. This collaboration underscores the strategic partnerships helping to drive advancements in AI technology in Asia.

Foxconn is expected to reveal additional details about FoxBrain during Nvidia’s GTC developer conference, which is scheduled for mid-March. The announcement comes as the global tech industry increasingly recognizes the potential of specialized AI solutions to transform computing and critical industries such as manufacturing and logistics.
