Malaysia Airlines will receive its new Airbus A330neo aircraft, which will unveil advanced features in business and economy class cabins. The A330neo recently won bronze for Cabin Concept of the Year 2024 at the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo in Hamburg, Germany.
The A330neo is Airbus’ next-generation widebody aircraft, replacing the current A330-200 and A330-300 models. Malaysia Airlines has ordered 20 A330neo (A330-900) aircraft, three of which will enter service this year.
Malaysia Airlines showcased the new cabin features in a recent video. Economy class passengers will enjoy 13.3-inch 4K in-flight entertainment (IFE) displays, a significant upgrade from the 11-inch 1080p screens currently offered on the Airbus A350-900. Even the flagship Business Class Suite, formerly known as First Class, offers 1080p resolution on its 24-inch IFE screens.
The economy class cabin will feature Recaro CL3810 seats, designed for ergonomic support and comfort. These seats include coat hooks, cup holders, and ample stowage space. The A330neo will have 269 economy class seats, including 24 seats with extra legroom, arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration.
In addition to the upgraded seating, the new A330neo will offer in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity. Malaysia Airlines provides complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi to all passengers, including economy class passengers. This free Wi-Fi service is available on selected widebody aircraft such as the A350-900, A330-300, and A300-200.
The A330neo will feature Collins Aerospace Elevation Business Class seats. These seats include individual privacy doors and wireless charging pads for added convenience. The new business class seats will be equipped with larger 17.3-inch 4K screens, a substantial upgrade from the current 16-inch 1080p screens on the Airbus A350. The business class cabin will have 28 seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, ensuring direct aisle access for all passengers.
The Airbus A330neo offers improved efficiency, up to a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, thanks to its new Rolls Royce Trent 7000 engines. The aircraft also features redesigned wings for better aerodynamics and a new Airspace interior for enhanced passenger comfort and space.
Malaysia Airlines is expected to receive its first A330neo in the third quarter of 2024, with the first commercial flight planned for Melbourne, Australia. The A330neo will gradually replace Malaysia Airlines’ existing A330 fleet by 2028.
