Ring Rebrands Subscription Service with New Features, Including 24/7 Recording

Key Points

  • Ring rebrands its subscription service from “Ring Protect” to “Ring Home,” launching on November 5th.
  • New features include 24/7 recording and video clip previews, enhancing security monitoring.
  • The prices remain the same: Home Basic is $4.99/month, Home Standard is $9.99/month, and Home Premium is $19.99/month.
  • The rebranding enables easier integration of additional security features like Virtual Security Guard and Professional Monitoring.

Ring has rebranded its subscription plans, moving away from the “Ring Protect” name to introduce “Ring Home.” Along with this rebranding, Ring unveils several new features, notably 24/7 video recording for select wired video doorbells. This enhancement ensures that users never miss important footage, even if motion alerts fail to trigger.

One of the standout features is the ability to receive video clip previews directly via push notifications, allowing users to view activity without opening the Ring app. This addition aims to improve the speed and convenience of accessing video footage.

Ring has introduced Extended and Continuous Live View options for users who want greater control over live monitoring. With Extended Live View, users can increase the viewing time limit from 10 to 30 minutes, while Continuous Live View removes the time limit entirely, allowing for uninterrupted viewing. Additionally, Ring has added a “Doorbell Calls” feature, which triggers a direct phone call to the user’s smartphone when someone is at the door, providing quicker interaction.

Pricing for the new Ring Home subscription tiers will remain the same as the previous Ring Protect plans, at least for now. The Home Basic plan costs $4.99 per month, the Home Standard is $9.99 per month, and the Home Premium is $19.99 per month. However, the new premium features like Continuous Live View and 24/7 recording are only available in the Home Premium tier. At the same time, Extended Live View and Doorbell Calls are included in the Standard plan.

The rebranding and feature additions reflect Ring’s desire to integrate more security solutions into its ecosystem. According to the company, this change, which will take effect on November 5th, allows users to easily add features like Virtual Security Guard and Alarm Professional Monitoring to their subscription, offering a more cohesive and customizable security experience.

Ring’s rebranding is part of a larger effort to create a more unified service and to make it easier for users to expand their security systems. With these updates, Ring continues positioning itself as a comprehensive home security provider, giving users more options and control over their home monitoring systems.
