ByteDance has introduced a new software, Jimeng AI, that generates videos from text prompts, joining several Chinese tech firms competing in this emerging market. This move follows the trend set by OpenAI, which introduced its text-to-video model Sora in February. While Sora is not yet available to the public, Chinese companies have quickly developed and launched similar tools.

Jimeng AI, developed by ByteDance-owned Faceu Technology, is now available on the Apple App Store for Chinese users, having been released on Android on July 31. ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, adds Jimeng AI to a series of recent text-to-video model releases in China.

Kuaishou, another major player in China’s video app market, launched its Kling AI text-to-video model to a global audience at the end of last month. Its beta version is accessible worldwide, requiring only an email address for registration.

Chinese AI startup Zhipu AI also unveiled its video-generating model Ying in June. Shortly after, another startup, Shengshu, launched its Vidu app, further expanding the range of text-to-video tools available to users.

Faceu Technology operates under ByteDance’s Jianying business, renowned for its video editing app CapCut. Jimeng AI offers subscription plans at different prices: 69 yuan ($9.65) monthly, 79 yuan for a single month, or 659 yuan annually. Each plan allows users to create approximately 2,050 images or 168 AI-generated videos monthly.

The launch of Jimeng AI by ByteDance reflects the growing interest and investment in AI-driven content creation tools within the Chinese tech industry. These developments come as companies strive to enhance their offerings and remain competitive in the rapidly evolving digital content landscape.

Expanding text-to-video capabilities signifies a significant advancement in AI technology, enabling users to create complex video content with minimal input. As more companies enter this space, the competition is likely to drive further innovation and improvements in the quality and accessibility of these tools.
