  • Immersed has launched Immersed Visor, a lightweight VR headset for productivity designed with 4K OLED screens and 6 DoF tracking.
  • The VR headset connects to Windows, macOS, or Linux computers and does not include an app store or gaming experience.
  • It weighs 186g, significantly lighter than competitors like Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro.
  • Pricing starts at $1,050 or $400 upfront with a subscription plan. The early shipping Founder’s Edition is priced at $1,350.

An Austin-based startup, Immersed, known for its virtual reality (VR) and mixed-reality workspace software, has launched its first hardware product: the Immersed Visor. This lightweight headset aims to compete with devices like Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3 by offering a high-resolution spatial computing experience designed primarily for work.

Renji Bijoy, founder of Immersed, introduced the Visor at an event in Austin on Thursday. The device, slightly more than glasses but lighter than a full headset, delivers a 4K OLED screen per eye and supports 6DoF tracking, allowing it to detect motion across multiple axes, not just simple head movements. It also includes hand and eye tracking and supports over five virtual screens for mixed-reality environments, making it a powerful tool for productivity.

One of the Visor’s standout features is its lightweight design. Weighing only 186g, it is 64% lighter than the Meta Quest 3 and about 70% lighter than Apple’s Vision Pro, which has been a concern for many users. Immersed achieves this by utilizing a wired battery pack that can be carried in a pocket.

Immersed Visor focuses exclusively on workplace productivity rather than entertainment. It lacks an app store or pre-installed experiences like games. Instead, users can connect the Visor wirelessly or via cable to their Windows, macOS, or Linux computers, making it suitable for immersive workspaces. With the 6DoF tracking, the virtual screens stay in place even as the user moves.

Like Immersed’s previous workspace app for Meta Quest and Vision Pro, Visor can work in either passthrough mode—which integrates the real-world surroundings—or in entirely virtual environments. Users can even collaborate with others in shared virtual spaces, making it a flexible tool for remote teams.

Immersed Visor is designed for high-performance computing and powered by Qualcomm’s XR2+ Gen 2 chip, which supports resolutions up to 4.3K per eye and frame rates of 90fps. However, it won’t be available until April 2025, and early adopters can purchase the Founder’s Edition, which ships in November 2024.

Pricing starts at $1,050 or $400 upfront with a subscription model, where users pay either $40 monthly for 24 months or $60 monthly for a 12-month plan. The Founder’s Edition is priced at $1,350 outright or $700 plus the monthly subscription fee.
