U.S. retailer Best Buy is looking to expand its team in India, with a focus on adding more digital and technology-focused jobs. A senior director at the company told Reuters that Best Buy plans to grow its global capability center (GCC) in Bengaluru, often called “India’s Silicon Valley.”
The company currently employs about 350 people at its Bengaluru hub and plans to increase that number to around 500 in the coming months. The new hires will include AI engineers, software engineers, and product managers.
This move is part of a larger trend of global companies setting up or expanding their presence in India to tap into the country’s growing pool of tech talent. These GCCs are no longer just low-cost back offices; they have evolved into high-value innovation hubs that support their parent companies in critical areas like R&D, finance, and operations.
Best Buy’s Bengaluru office is already its largest technology hub, and this expansion shows just how important the Indian team has become to the company’s global operations. “Even if you look at the global strength, I think we are growing leaps and bounds in India,” said Nithya Subramanian, a senior director at the company.
While Best Buy operates over 1,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada, it does not have any retail stores in India. The expansion highlights India’s growing importance as a global center for technology and innovation, a market that is expected to be worth over $100 billion by 2030.
