If you were hoping for a much smarter Siri on your new iPhone, you’ll have to wait a bit longer. According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is now planning to release its completely revamped Siri next spring.
This new version promises to do much more than just set timers or reminders. It will be able to handle complex tasks inside your favorite apps, like commenting on an Instagram post, adding an item to a shopping cart, or even editing and sending a photo for you.
The delay has been a sore spot for Apple. The company first showed off the powerful new Siri at its big developer conference earlier this year, making it a centerpiece of its new “Apple Intelligence” push. But Apple later admitted that getting the features right was “going to take us longer than we thought.”
The delay even led to a false advertising lawsuit after a TV ad for the iPhone 16 showed off the new Siri capabilities before they were available to the public.
The new feature, called “App Intents,” is currently being tested with a bunch of popular third-party apps, including Amazon, Facebook, Uber, and YouTube. Apple is being cautious with how it handles sensitive information, so it might add restrictions for apps like banking to ensure user privacy and security.
