Key Points:

  • Amazon expands its Health AI tool to its main website and mobile app.
  • The software answers medical questions, explains lab results, and books doctor appointments.
  • Users do not need a Prime subscription or One Medical membership for basic access.
  • Amazon protects privacy by using strong encryption and hiding patient names during training.

Amazon is bringing its digital healthcare assistant to a massive new audience. On Tuesday, the company announced it will add Health AI to its main website and mobile app. Previously, people could only access this tool through One Medical, the primary care service Amazon bought in 2023.

The smart assistant handles much more than basic questions. It explains confusing lab results, manages prescription refills, and books doctor appointments. Amazon designed the software to act as a personal agent that gives tailored advice and connects users with real medical professionals.

Anyone can use the basic features without a Prime subscription or One Medical membership. However, Prime members receive a special perk. Amazon gives them five free message consultations with a doctor for common issues like allergies. Non-members just pay a flat fee per visit.

Sharing health data with a computer carries risks. Amazon promises it keeps everything safe inside a secure, encrypted environment. When the company trains the AI, it strips away personal details and only studies general patterns. With your permission, the AI pulls your actual medical records through a secure national exchange.

Users simply sign into their Amazon Health profile to start. They can ask everyday questions, like what their cholesterol numbers mean or how to treat a sore throat.

This expansion arrives at a highly competitive moment. Artificial intelligence rivals are rushing into the medical field. Last month, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health, and Anthropic announced Claude for Healthcare.
