Key Points

  • Amazon is planning to lay off thousands more corporate employees. The terminations are expected to begin as early as next week.
  • This follows a round of 14,000 job cuts announced a few months ago.
  • The company had previously signaled that more layoffs could come in 2026.
  • The cuts are part of a broader effort to streamline the company’s bureaucracy.

Amazon is preparing for another round of major layoffs, with plans to cut thousands more corporate jobs. According to sources, the terminations are expected to begin as early as next week as the company continues its push to streamline its operations and cut costs.

This latest round of cuts comes just a few months after Amazon announced it was eliminating 14,000 other roles. At that time, the company warned that more layoffs could be on the way in 2026 as it sought “additional places we can remove layers.”

It seems that the time has now come.

The new layoffs echo a similar series of cuts that Amazon made in late 2022 and early 2023, which ultimately resulted in about 27,000 people losing their jobs.

While Amazon is a massive company, with a global workforce of over 1.5 million people, the vast majority of its employees work in warehouses. These latest layoffs are targeting the corporate side of the business, which has about 350,000 employees.

An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment on the new round of cuts.

The move is a clear sign that CEO Andy Jassy is serious about making the company leaner and more efficient. After a period of massive hiring during the pandemic, Amazon is now in a phase of consolidation, and it seems that no part of the company is immune to the cuts.
