Apple is taking a page from its rivals’ playbook to deliver the super-smart Siri that it has finally promised for years. According to a new Bloomberg report, the company has developed an internal, ChatGPT-style app to test its revamped voice assistant before releasing it to the public.

The internal app, called “Veritas,” gives Apple employees a faster way to test Siri’s powerful new capabilities. The goal for the new Siri is to handle complex, multi-step tasks, like searching through your personal emails and messages, or even editing a photo and sending it for you. “Veritas” lets Apple gather feedback on these new skills and figure out if the whole “chatbot format” is actually useful for customers.

The existence of a dedicated testing app is a significant sign of progress for a project that delays have plagued. Apple first showcased its vision for a significantly smarter Siri at its developer conference in 2024, but later had to acknowledge that the update was taking longer than expected publicly.

The company’s initial “Apple Intelligence” release was seen by many as underwhelming precisely because the impressive, context-aware Siri was missing.

Apple is reportedly aiming for a 2026 release to realize its vision fully. To get there, the company might not go it alone. After previously considering partnerships with OpenAI or Anthropic, Apple is now reportedly in talks with Google to utilize one of its powerful AI models to help bring the new Siri to life.
