Apple is reportedly developing a new wearable device, an “AI pin” that could be its next big product after the Apple Watch. According to a new report from The Information, the device is a small, circular pin that resembles a slightly thicker AirTag. It’s packed with technology, including multiple cameras, a speaker, and three microphones.

This news comes as another Bloomberg report claims Apple is planning a major overhaul of its virtual assistant, Siri, turning it into a ChatGPT-style chatbot. It was also recently announced that Google’s Gemini AI will be powering some of Siri’s new features. All of this suggests that Apple is finally getting serious about generative AI.

The AI pin itself is described as a thin, flat disc with an aluminum and glass exterior. It has both a standard and a wide-angle camera for taking photos and videos of your surroundings. It also has a physical button and a magnetic charging interface, similar to the Apple Watch.

The idea of a small, always-listening, always-watching device will undoubtedly raise privacy concerns. It will be interesting to see how Apple, a company that prides itself on being privacy-focused, will market what is essentially an incognito recording device.

The report says that the pin is still in the very early stages of development and could be canceled. However, if it does make it to market, it could be as early as 2027. Apple is reportedly so confident in the device that it’s planning to produce around 20 million units for the initial launch.
