Australian stocks experienced a downturn on Tuesday’s close, with losses primarily observed in the Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples, and Utilities sectors, contributing to a share decline. At the close of the trading day in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 index fell by 0.15%.

Among the top performers in the session on the S&P/ASX 200 was Healius Ltd (ASX:HLS), which saw a notable increase of 14.67% or 0.16 points, reaching 1.29 by the closing bell. Additionally, Iress Ltd (ASX:IRE) experienced a gain of 12.50% or 1.00 points, closing at 9.00, while St Barbara Ltd (ASX:SBM) rose by 12.50% or 0.02 points to 0.18 in late trading.

Conversely, some of the worst performers during the session included Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS), which witnessed a decline of 7.03% or 0.31 points, closing at 4.10. IGO Ltd (ASX:IGO) also experienced a decrease of 5.27% or 0.43 points, ending at 7.73, while Lynas Rare Earths Ltd (ASX:LYC) fell by 4.49% or 0.28 points to 5.96.

On the Sydney Stock Exchange, falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones, with 649 stocks declining, 516 advancing, and 342 remaining unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, decreased by 1.05% to 11.06.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery experienced a slight decline of 0.12%, or 2.55 points, reaching $2,123.75 per troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell by 0.32%, or 0.25 points, to $78.49 per barrel, and the May Brent oil contract decreased by 0.19%, or 0.16 points, to trade at $82.64 per barrel.

The AUD/USD pair remained unchanged, rising by 0.18% to 0.65, while AUD/JPY fell by 0.18% to 97.81. Lastly, the US Dollar Index Futures saw a minor increase of 0.04%, reaching 103.82.
