Microsoft is gearing up to launch its latest Surface devices, the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6, on March 21. However, these releases are expected to surpass hardware upgrades, as Microsoft positions them as its first AI PCs, integrating advanced neural processing units (NPUs) to enhance AI capabilities.

The upcoming Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 are anticipated to feature new Intel Core Ultra or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite-based processors equipped with NPUs. These processors are designed to offer enhanced efficiency and performance, potentially rivaling the likes of the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro.

These devices are touted to support upcoming AI features in Windows 11, including on-device Copilot support, real-time live captions and translations, game upscaling, frame rate smoothing, upgraded Windows Studio Effects, and a feature known as AI Explorer.

AI Explorer is expected to revolutionize user experience by enabling natural language searches across documents, web pages, images, and chats, with contextual understanding and task suggestions based on-screen content. It’s also rumored to support text-based image editing.

The AI capabilities are projected to debut with the fall’s 24H2 update for Windows 11, offering users advanced productivity and functionality. The Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 are rumored to boast all-day battery life. The Surface Pro 10 is anticipated to sport an anti-reflective, HDR-capable OLED screen, with features like a front-facing ultrawide webcam and an NFC reader.

On the other hand, the Surface Laptop 6 is expected to undergo a significant redesign, featuring thinner bezels, rounded corners, a haptic touchpad, and a dedicated key for Copilot. Additionally, it’s slated to introduce a revamped group of ports and become the first Surface Laptop with an Arm variant, offering users more versatility regarding processor choice.

According to reports, the Intel versions of the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 are scheduled to launch in April, with Snapdragon variants following in June.
