iRobot, the company famous for its Roomba robot vacuums, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The move comes just months after a planned $1.7 billion acquisition by Amazon fell through amid regulatory pressure in Europe.

On Sunday, the company announced it had started a “pre-packaged” bankruptcy process. This means iRobot already has a deal in place with its key partners to restructure the business and expedite the court process.

As part of the plan, iRobot has agreed to be acquired by its main contract manufacturer, Picea. This deal, which also involves a secured lender, will happen through a court-supervised process.

This pre-arranged deal is designed to allow the company to continue operating and transition quickly to new ownership, ensuring the Roomba brand can overcome its recent financial challenges.
