Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked Event on January 22 What to Expect

Key Points

  • Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S25 series, featuring three models – S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra.
  • The phones will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor globally.
  • The S25 Ultra will feature a 50MP ultra-wide sensor upgrade.
  • Samsung may introduce the Galaxy Ring 2 and tease its AR glasses project.

Samsung will unveil its latest Galaxy S25 lineup at its highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22 at 1 p.m. ET in San Jose, California. The event is expected to showcase the company’s next-generation flagship smartphones.

Samsung will likely continue its three-tier flagship strategy, introducing the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra models. Leaks from reputable sources, including Android Headlines and Ice Universe, suggest subtle design changes, such as rounded corners, flatter edges, and thinner bezels. The display sizes are expected to remain the same for the S25 and S25+ at 6.2 and 6.7 inches, respectively, while the S25 Ultra may slightly increase to 6.9 inches.

Under the hood, the Galaxy S25 series is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor in all markets, replacing Samsung’s traditional split between Snapdragon and Exynos chips. This shift could result in better performance and battery efficiency across regions. The new processor is designed to enhance on-device generative AI capabilities, aligning with Samsung’s AI-driven strategy.

However, in competing devices, Samsung is rumored to use last-generation OLED display panels made of M13 organic materials instead of the newer M14 OLED technology. This decision may aim to lower production costs.

The camera upgrades in the S25 Ultra are expected to be minimal. The ultra-wide sensor will increase to 50MP from 12MP, while the other sensors will remain unchanged. Additionally, Samsung will integrate Qi2 wireless charging technology but may require a dedicated case for full magnetic capabilities.

Rumors also suggest a possible new model, the Galaxy S25 Slim, featuring a slimmer design. However, it is unlikely to be announced at the January event due to the lack of regulatory certifications.

Beyond smartphones, Samsung might tease the Galaxy Ring 2, an upgraded wearable with additional AI features and improved battery life, and even preview its upcoming AR glasses, developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm.
