Sennheiser is back with a new pair of high-end wireless headphones, the HDB 630. Priced at $500, these new cans are designed for audiophiles and offer a major feature for anyone who values sound quality: lossless, high-resolution listening, even if your phone doesn’t support it.
The HDB 630 bears a strong resemblance to the company’s popular Momentum 4 headphones, but Sennheiser claims it has completely redesigned the interior with a new acoustic system. The goal is to deliver a pure, uncolored sound that accurately represents what the artist intended in the recording studio.
But the real standout feature is how the headphones handle high-quality audio. They can play lossless, 24-bit/96kHz audio through a wired USB-C or 3.5mm connection. For wireless listening, Sennheiser includes a special USB-C dongle. This small accessory enables you to enjoy higher-quality audio using the aptX Adaptive codec, even if your phone or tablet doesn’t natively support it. The company says this will bring high-res wireless sound to 80% of smartphones.
The headphones also come with some cool “audiophile” software features, such as a “Crossfade” option that mimics the sound of listening to speakers and a new, more advanced equalizer for fine-tuning the sound.
Like the Momentum 4, the HDB 630 boasts an impressive 60 hours of battery life with noise canceling on. The new headphones are available for pre-order today and will start shipping on October 21.
