Sony has officially unveiled a groundbreaking addition to its gaming console lineup, announcing the new PS5 “Slim” model. The eagerly awaited iteration of the PlayStation 5 comes with a detachable disc drive and a spacious 1TB of internal storage, propelling the gaming experience to new heights. Often referred to as the PS5 “Slim,” this model is designed to replace the original PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition, offering enhanced features and a sleeker design.
The new Sony PS5 boasts a significant reduction in volume, reducing its size by over 30 percent and a weight reduction of up to 24 percent, making it more compact and lightweight than its predecessor. One of the standout features is the detachable disc drive, which allows users to remove it and replace it with a side panel, enhancing the overall aesthetics of the console. In the United States, the new Sony PS5 model is priced at $499.99 with the drive included, while the PS5 Digital Edition comes at a competitive price of $449.99. Sony is also offering the Blu-ray disc drive as a separate purchase for $79.99 (€119.99 / £99.99), providing flexibility for those who opt for the Digital Edition but wish to upgrade in the future.
Enhancements continue with dual USB-C ports at the front, a departure from the single USB-C and USB-A ports on the existing Sony PS5.
