China’s Commerce Minister, Wang Wentao, met with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on Thursday and expressed hope that multinational companies would provide high-quality and reliable products to Chinese customers. Huang, in turn, called the Chinese market “very attractive” and said Nvidia is eager to deepen its AI cooperation with Chinese partners.

The meeting was part of Huang’s third visit to China this year, a trip that also included meetings with other senior Chinese officials. During a press conference in Beijing, Huang praised the AI models from Chinese firms like Alibaba and Tencent as “world-class.” He said the officials he met with welcomed continued foreign investment in the country.

This high-level visit follows a breakthrough announcement. China’s commerce ministry confirmed that the U.S. has stated it will approve the sale of Nvidia’s powerful H20 AI chips to Chinese customers. These chips had been subject to strict U.S. export controls.

Huang noted that demand for the H20 in China is high, but the company is still waiting for the U.S. government to formally issue the export licenses before any orders can be filled.

To navigate the ongoing U.S. restrictions, Nvidia also announced it is developing a new chip, the RTX Pro GPU, specifically for the Chinese market. This chip will be fully compliant with U.S. export rules and is designed for use in smart factories and training robots.
