Microsoft has released a beta version of its new AI-powered Gaming Copilot, an assistant designed to help gamers navigate challenging situations and learn more about their games. The new tool is now available for Xbox Insiders to test on PC through the Game Bar.
Think of it like a modern, AI version of the old Nintendo help hotlines. The chatbot appears as an overlay on your screen, and you can ask it questions about the game you’re currently playing.
Microsoft says the tool “knows what you’re playing” and can even use in-game screenshots to understand your situation and provide useful advice when you’re stuck.
Besides helping you traverse obstacles, the Gaming Copilot can also suggest new games to buy based on your activity and answer questions about your Xbox account. You can type your questions or use your voice if you have a microphone connected.
This is just the beginning for the new assistant. Microsoft says it plans to add more features in the future, including “proactive coaching” that could offer tips before you even have to ask.
The beta is currently only available in English. Still, it can be used by Xbox Insiders in several countries, including the U.S., Japan, and New Zealand. While it’s also available on Windows-based handheld gaming devices, the company says the functionality there is limited for now.
