AWS Unleashes AI to Automate Painful Code Upgrades

Amazon Web Services
From Data to Deployment — The Unseen Power of Amazon Web Services.

Key Points

  • AWS has upgraded its “AWS Transform” tool with new “agentic AI” to tackle tech debt.
  • The AI can analyze, plan, and automatically modernize entire applications, including custom code.
  • It’s designed to handle full-stack Windows modernization, from .NET apps to SQL databases.
  • AWS claims the tool can cut maintenance costs by up to 70% and speed up the process by 5x.

Dealing with outdated code, often called “tech debt,” can be a huge drain on any company. Amazon Web Services (AWS) thinks it has a solution. At its re:Invent 2025 conference, the company unveiled a major upgrade to its AWS Transform service, now powered by advanced “agentic AI” to automate the painful process of modernizing legacy applications.

The new AI agents can tackle almost anything, from custom programming languages to entire Windows software stacks, including .NET apps and SQL databases. AWS says this will help businesses of all sizes finally get ahead of their tech debt.

According to AWS, many tech teams spend around 30% of their time on this kind of manual work, which pulls them away from creating new products. The company claims AWS Transform can eliminate up to 70% of maintenance costs and accelerate modernization by up to 5x. While the tool has already saved customers hundreds of thousands of hours, users demanded more powerful AI capabilities.

Here’s how the new system works: The AI agent analyzes a company’s complete software stack and then proposes a detailed modernization plan.

Once a developer approves it, the agent takes over, transforming the application, database, and operating system simultaneously. It even provides progress updates and learns from feedback, making each future project faster and more reliable.
