Key Points

  • Brookfield is launching its own cloud business, Radiant. The new company will lease chips directly to AI developers.
  • This is part of a $10 billion AI fund that will build data centers globally.
  • The move gives Brookfield end-to-end control of the AI supply chain.
  • This could put pressure on traditional cloud providers like Amazon and Microsoft.

Brookfield, the massive Canadian investment firm, is jumping into the cloud computing business. According to a new report, the company plans to lease chips directly to AI developers from inside its own data centers. This move is part of a broader strategy to control every part of the AI supply chain, from the land on which the data centers are built to the chips that power the software.

To make this happen, Brookfield is starting a new $10 billion AI fund. A significant portion of this fund will be allocated to a new cloud company called Radiant. Radiant will have first access to leasing space in all new data centers that Brookfield builds worldwide. The fund is already working on new projects in France, Qatar, and Sweden.

This isn’t Brookfield’s first step into the AI world. Back in November, the company launched a massive $100 billion AI infrastructure program. Big names like Nvidia and the Kuwait Investment Authority have already committed to the fund.

By combining its expertise in real estate and energy with this new cloud business, Brookfield can do something that companies like Amazon and Microsoft can’t. They can manage the entire process—from building the facility to providing the power to leasing the chips—all in-house.

This strategy could put significant pressure on the traditional cloud giants. Amazon, Microsoft, and Oracle are already facing pressure from investors to increase profitability from their expensive data centers. Now, they will have to compete with a company that may offer lower prices because it controls its costs so tightly.

The AI boom requires significant capital, and Brookfield is betting that its end-to-end control will give it a major advantage in the race to power the future.
