Key Points:

  • Apple is testing yellow, green, blue, and pink for a new laptop.
  • The entry-level MacBook targets the education and business markets.
  • The device will use a metal aluminum shell rather than a cheap plastic one.
  • An official announcement is likely coming at a March event.

Choosing a new laptop might soon involve picking your favorite color. Apple is reportedly working on a new entry-level MacBook that breaks away from the standard gray and silver look. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant has tested a variety of fun colors, including light yellow, light green, blue, and pink.

This new device specifically targets students and corporate users who need a reliable machine without a massive price tag. While Gurman noted that Apple also tested the classic silver and dark gray options, the move toward vibrant colors matches the style of the 2024 iMac. It seems Apple wants to make its budget-friendly devices look distinct and appealing.

The price is the biggest draw for this upcoming model. Industry rumors suggest the laptop will cost between $699 and $799. To reach this lower price point, Apple will likely use processors originally designed for smartphones. Reports indicate the machine could run on the A18 Pro chip, which powers the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This strategy allows Apple to save money while still delivering solid performance for everyday tasks.

Despite the lower cost, Apple does not plan to make the laptop feel cheap. Gurman reports that the company will use a new manufacturing process to build a metal-aluminum shell. This means buyers won’t have to settle for a flimsy plastic body just to save a few hundred dollars.

However, a lower price usually means some trade-offs. We expect the new MacBook might have fewer ports or a slightly lower-quality screen compared to the Air or Pro lines. We won’t have to wait long to see the final product. Apple is expected to reveal this colorful new laptop at an event in March.
