Key Points:

  • Anthropic’s revenue rate in India doubled in just four months.
  • India is now the second-largest market for Claude after the US.
  • The company officially opened its new office in Bengaluru on Monday.
  • Major partnerships include deals with Air India and Cognizant.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei announced on Monday that his company is seeing explosive growth in India. Speaking at the firm’s Builder Summit, Amodei revealed that Anthropic’s revenue run-rate in the country has doubled over the last four months. To support this rapid expansion, the AI startup officially opened its new office in Bengaluru.

India has quickly become vital to the company’s future. It now stands as the largest market for the Claude AI model outside of the United States. Amodei noted that users in India show high “technical intensity.” This means they are using Claude for complex professional tasks and coding rather than just casual conversation.

This growth comes shortly after Anthropic raised $30 billion in a massive funding round last week, which valued the company at $380 billion. The startup, backed by Amazon and Alphabet, is aggressively targeting the business world. Its Claude Code product has been a hit with developers since it launched last May.

However, the rise of these tools is creating nervousness in the market. The company recently released “Claude Cowork,” an AI agent that can perform computer tasks for white-collar workers. This innovation sparked fears that AI might replace jobs in India’s $283 billion IT services sector. These concerns triggered a selloff in software stocks, wiping out billions in market value this month.

Despite the market jitters, big businesses are signing up. Anthropic highlighted several key partnerships during the event. Air India is using Claude Code to build custom software faster and integrate AI into its operations. Meanwhile, IT giant Cognizant is deploying the technology to modernize old computer systems.

The company is also looking beyond big corporations. Amodei announced new tie-ups with Indian startups working in law, education, healthcare, and agriculture. The CEO is currently in the country to attend the India AI Impact Summit later this week.
