Key Points:

  • X introduced a new feature for its creator subscription program.
  • The update lets users hide specific parts of a post behind a paywall.
  • Creators can now tease content before asking readers to subscribe.
  • The company ironically named this new tool Exclusive Threads.

X just rolled out a fresh update for its creator subscriptions platform. The social media company wants to give popular accounts better ways to make money directly from their daily followers.

The biggest change arriving today is a new tool called Exclusive Threads. This feature lets participating creators hide specific parts of a long post chain from the general public. Instead of locking an entire post behind a strict paywall, a creator can now share the beginning of a story for free and save the best details for paying fans.

Nikita Bier, the head of product at X, shared a quick video showing exactly how the tool works on the mobile app. When a user reads a partially locked post, they will eventually hit a hard stopping point. Right there in the middle of the chain, X embeds a bright button asking the reader to sign up as a paid subscriber.

The company hopes this clever teaser method will successfully hook curious readers. If a story, analysis, or tutorial is engaging enough, regular users might finally pull out their credit cards to read the ending. It gives creators a much better marketing tool than simply locking everything away from the very start.

Many users quickly noticed the highly ironic name choice for the tool. X decided to name the feature Exclusive Threads, even though its biggest text-based rival on the market is Meta’s app, literally named Threads.

This specific update fits into a much larger strategy by X to win over internet creators. The platform recently added several other handy tools, including a clear paid partnership label for sponsored posts, to help everyday users build actual sustainable businesses on the site.
