ExpressVPN Launches Privacy-Focused Dedicated IP Feature

Key Points

  • ExpressVPN launches a privacy-focused dedicated IP feature using a zero-trust model.
  • Available for Android, iOS, and Windows, with 29 locations in 22 countries.
  • Innovations like blinded tokens and AWS Nitro Enclaves ensure enhanced privacy.
  • Users can activate the feature for an additional cost starting at $3.49 per month.

ExpressVPN has introduced a new dedicated IP feature with privacy and security at its core. Setting a new benchmark in the VPN industry, ExpressVPN’s approach ensures even the provider cannot trace the dedicated IP back to the user. This development represents a significant step forward in maintaining anonymity while offering the benefits of a static IP address.

Currently available on Android, iOS, and Windows platforms, the feature provides access to 29 locations across 22 countries, predominantly in North America, Asia, and Europe. While additional platform support is expected soon, users can activate this feature for an extra monthly fee.

Samuel Bultez, ExpressVPN’s Head of Product, highlighted the company’s commitment to privacy, emphasizing their “zero-trust” implementation. “Our innovative approach to dedicated IP delivers all the benefits of a static IP address while preserving every user’s privacy and security,” said Bultez. This method prevents traceability and raises the VPN industry’s standard for dedicated IP services.

Traditional dedicated IPs often risk linking online activities to individual users. ExpressVPN addresses this concern by introducing Zero Knowledge IP Allocation and blinded tokens. The latter allows servers to issue tokens without knowing who they are assigned to, enhancing privacy. Additionally, using AWS Nitro Enclaves ensures secure and private IP allocation.

Pete Membrey, ExpressVPN’s Chief Research Officer, revealed that the team has released a technical white paper outlining the engineering, security measures, and privacy safeguards involved in the feature. This move underscores the company’s commitment to transparency and trust, providing users with a deeper understanding of the technologies behind their dedicated IP solution.

Setting up a dedicated IP with ExpressVPN is straightforward. Users can add this option to their subscription via their account page or during checkout if signing up for a new plan. Prices start at $3.49 per month, depending on the plan duration. After selecting a location and creating an access code, users can seamlessly switch between their dedicated IP and a standard VPN IP through the app.
