Figma Stock Outlook Amid Growing Design Software Demand.

Key Points

  • Figma’s stock jumped over 15% on Monday. An onstage demo by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman caused the surge.
  • Altman showed how Figma will be integrated directly into ChatGPT.
  • The integration will allow users to turn sketches into diagrams using simple text commands.
  • This is part of a new OpenAI platform that enables third-party apps to integrate with ChatGPT.

Shares of design software company Figma jumped over 15% on Monday after it got a major shout-out from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. During a live demo at OpenAI’s annual developer conference, Altman showed off how Figma’s tools will be integrated directly into ChatGPT.

The new integration will enable users to transition seamlessly between ChatGPT and Figma. Altman gave a powerful example: you could sketch out a product idea for ChatGPT and then simply tell it, “Figma, turn this sketch into a workable diagram.” The Figma “app” within ChatGPT would then take over and complete the task.

This deep integration is a significant win for Figma and a testament to how AI is transforming the way people work with software. Instead of switching between different programs, users will be able to access specialized tools directly from within their chatbot conversation. This is all made possible by OpenAI’s new “Apps SDK,” a framework that enables third-party applications to integrate directly with ChatGPT.

The 15% jump was Figma’s biggest one-day gain since its IPO in July. The company has already been developing its own AI tools for designers, and this partnership with the world’s leading AI company is a significant endorsement.

OpenAI’s new app platform is set to launch later this year, and it will open up new ways for companies like Figma to reach ChatGPT’s massive user base of over 800 million people.
