The H2 MEET 2024, a major international exhibition dedicated to hydrogen technology, kicked off on Wednesday at Kintex in Goyang, South Korea. The three-day event is the largest in its five-year history, featuring 317 companies and organizations from 24 countries. This global gathering highlights the latest advancements in hydrogen technology, with a significant presence from Hyundai Motor Group.
“This event is a unique platform to showcase Korean innovation and foster global hydrogen collaborations. The government is committed to backing initiatives like clean hydrogen development and the adoption of hydrogen-powered buses,” said Choi Nam-ho, second vice minister of trade, industry, and energy, at the opening ceremony.
The exhibition showcases a wide array of hydrogen applications, including hydrogen-powered vehicles like engines for tractors and cargo bikes, advanced technologies for hydrogen production through water electrolysis and carbon capture, and cutting-edge hydrogen storage and transportation methods, such as liquefied hydrogen tanks, pipelines, and refueling stations.
In addition to the exhibitions, the H2 MEET 2024 provides a space for global dialogue. The Leaders Summit will focus on emerging hydrogen trends, while representatives from 12 countries, including the U.S., Australia, and Canada, will present their hydrogen policies during the “Country Day” initiative. The H2 Innovation Award will recognize outstanding technologies, and an Export Consultation program aims to help South Korean companies expand into international markets.
A major exhibitor at the H2 MEET 2024 is Hyundai Motor Group. “We’re using this event to demonstrate Hyundai’s complete range of hydrogen technologies, from production to end-use, showcasing our commitment to a hydrogen-powered society,” said Hyundai Motor Company CEO Jang Jae-hoon.
Hyundai’s exhibition is divided into four key areas. The first focuses on energy security, highlighting Hyundai’s waste-to-hydrogen and plastic-to-hydrogen systems. The company also showcases its Chungju Resource Circulation Hydrogen Production Facility, which produces 500 kilograms of clean hydrogen daily from organic waste and livestock manure. A model of Hyundai’s upcoming PEM-based hydrogen production plant in Buan is also on display.
Hyundai is also focusing on decarbonizing industrial sectors such as ports and airports. The company’s hydrogen-powered trucks are already part of logistics operations in California and Georgia. Hyundai’s plans to integrate hydrogen-powered vehicles into industrial complexes like Incheon International Airport are a key part of this effort. The final section of Hyundai’s exhibit explores the future of a hydrogen-based society, with applications ranging from hydrogen-powered trams to forklifts. Visitors can experience these through virtual reality.
