Insta360 has unveiled its latest innovation, the Flow Pro smartphone gimbal, featuring a unique capability not seen in any rival products: Apple DockKit support. This addition allows the gimbal to automatically track users as they present, perform, or engage in various activities, similar to the functionality found in DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 gimbal.
The Apple DockKit support turns the Flow Pro into a robotic camera operator. Users can set up the Flow Pro on its built-in tripod, which extends from the handle, and pair it with an iPhone. Attaching the iPhone to the gimbal is straightforward, using either the magnetic phone clamp or a MagSafe-compatible magnetic phone mount. Once set up, the Flow Pro utilizes the iPhone’s front or rear camera and the native camera app to track and focus on the user or the subject. It allows for freedom of movement while ensuring the subject remains in frame and focus. The gimbal is compatible with over 200 third-party iOS apps, including FaceTime, Zoom, and TikTok.
The only other DockKit product available is Belkin’s Stand Pro iPhone dock, which lacks gimbal functionality. In contrast, the Flow Pro is a more advanced version of Insta360’s original Flow gimbal and is priced more affordably than Belkin’s offering. It features three-axis mechanical shake reduction, which provides superior stabilization compared to smartphones’ electronic stabilization.
The Flow Pro includes Insta360’s AI-powered subject tracking with advanced features such as tracking recovery, person re-identification, and slow-motion tracking. The new Deep Track 3.0 technology adds 360-degree infinite pan tracking, enabling the gimbal to rotate horizontally while following subjects. It also supports animal tracking for pets like dogs, cats, and horses and includes an LED tracking ring to monitor subject tracking status easily.
Additional features of the Flow Pro include a selfie stick that extends up to 215mm (8.5 inches), a built-in cold shoe for attaching microphones or other accessories, and a 2,900mAh power bank for charging the iPhone. The gimbal boasts a “one-step rapid deploy” mechanism for quick setup, a 10-hour battery life, a SmartWheel for quick access to shooting controls, and four gimbal modes (auto, follow, pan follow, and FPV).
The Insta360 Flow Pro is now available in the US and worldwide for $149 at select retailers. The package includes a magnetic phone clamp, charge cable, grip cover, and protective pouch, with additional accessories such as a spotlight, magnetic phone mount, and decorative inserts sold separately.
