Key Points

  • Foreign phone sales in China increased 13% year over year in October. Apple’s iPhone is seen as the primary driver behind this growth.
  • This growth rate was significantly higher than the overall market’s 8.7% increase.
  • Over 7 million foreign-branded phones were shipped during the month.
  • The data suggests foreign brands are competing effectively against strong local competitors.

Foreign phone brands, with Apple’s iPhone leading the charge, saw a significant sales jump in China this October, signaling strong demand in one of the world’s most competitive markets.

New data from a government-affiliated research firm show that shipments of foreign-branded phones rose by 13% compared to the same month last year. In total, these companies sold over 7 million handsets in October, up from about 6.2 million a year ago.

This growth is particularly noteworthy because it outpaced the overall Chinese smartphone market, which grew by a more modest 8.7%.

The strong performance suggests that Apple and other international players are successfully holding their ground against powerful local rivals like Huawei and Xiaomi.

While the entire market is expanding, with over 32 million phones sold during the month, the standout performance from foreign brands indicates that the latest iPhone models and other international offerings continue to win over Chinese consumers in a crowded field.
