Key Points:

  • U.S.-based artificial intelligence cloud provider Firebird officially launched the largest AI Factory in the CIS region, located in Hrazdan, Armenia.
  • The multi-million-dollar facility is powered by Nvidia accelerated computing hardware, networking gear, and software stacks.
  • Constructed using Nvidia’s reference architecture alongside Dell Technologies servers, the plant handles large-scale training and inference workloads.
  • The facility aims to bypass traditional Western power grid bottlenecks by utilizing local energy resources in the South Caucasus.

The global artificial intelligence infrastructure landscape is expanding into frontier markets. United States-based cloud provider Firebird officially launched the largest artificial intelligence factory in the Commonwealth of Independent States region. Situated in the industrial city of Hrazdan, Armenia, this operational debut marks a major milestone for high-density computing outside traditional Western technology hubs.

The newly opened facility relies heavily on advanced accelerated computing infrastructure. Built around thousands of Nvidia B200 Blackwell graphics processing units and Dell Technologies PowerEdge servers, the plant is engineered to support demanding machine learning workloads, including large-scale model training, fine-tuning, and active inference. Utilizing Nvidia’s specialized reference design, the site coordinates power, cooling, and compute capacity as an integrated system.

The project highlights a strategic push by global hardware and cloud providers to establish high-performance computing centers in regions with available energy capacity. By placing state-of-the-art chipsets in the South Caucasus, the initiative bypasses the severe power grid bottlenecks currently affecting traditional data center markets in North America and Europe. The location leverages regional energy capacity from local hydroelectric and thermal power plants dating back decades.

High-level political and industry representatives attended the grand opening ceremony, including Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, international delegates, and technology executives. Government leaders emphasized that the project establishes Armenia as an emerging technological crossroads connecting regional and international developers. Furthermore, the facility will reserve a portion of its compute capacity to support local tech startups, university research initiatives, and government programs.

Industry analysts note that securing specialized export licenses for advanced processors remains a crucial factor for cross-border infrastructure projects of this scale. With its initial operational phase now live, Firebird plans an ambitious roadmap to scale its footprint further. As global demand for machine learning infrastructure accelerates, building high-density facilities in alternative geographic regions provides a viable path forward for the digital economy.
