Key Points

  • Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, said the U.S. shouldn’t worry about China using his company’s chips for its military.
  • He argued China can’t rely on U.S. tech because it can be restricted, and they already have enough computing power.
  • Huang criticized U.S. export controls, saying they hurt America’s ability to be a global AI leader.
  • His comments come as he prepares for another trip to China, after recently meeting with President Trump.

Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, is trying to ease fears in Washington, saying the U.S. shouldn’t worry about his company’s advanced chips ending up in the hands of the Chinese military. In a recent TV interview, he argued that China simply can’t rely on American technology because the U.S. could cut it off at any time.

“They don’t need Nvidia’s chips, certainly, or American tech stacks to build their military,” Huang said. He added that China already has plenty of its computing power.

He went further, criticizing the U.S. government’s export controls, which block the sale of the most advanced AI chips to China. Huang argued that this policy hurts America’s goal of being the world’s leader in AI. He explained that if you want your technology to be the global standard, you have to sell it everywhere. And since half of the world’s AI developers are in China, cutting them off is counterproductive.

Huang’s comments come at a critical time. He is about to travel to China for his second trip this year, just after meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. U.S. lawmakers have warned him not to meet with certain Chinese companies linked to the military. It’s a clear sign of the political tightrope he is walking.

The pressure is real. The export bans have already cut Nvidia’s market share in China by nearly half, costing the company billions in potential revenue. As he tries to navigate the tense relationship between Washington and Beijing, Huang is working to protect his company’s business interests without angering either side.
