At the Samsung Developer Conference, Samsung announced its latest AI innovation, the Gauss 2 AI model, signaling a significant advancement in the company’s artificial intelligence endeavors. Gauss 2 builds on the foundation laid by its predecessor, offering enhanced performance and efficiency tailored for integration across a wide range of Samsung devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and home appliances.
The Gauss 2 model is multimodal, simultaneously processing text, images, and computer code. This versatility allows for seamless incorporation of AI-driven features, simplifying and enriching user interactions with their devices. Samsung introduced three versions of the model, each designed to address specific needs: Compact, Balanced, and Supreme.
Compact is designed for offline functionality; this version operates efficiently without an internet connection. Balanced offers a mix of offline and online processing, ensuring faster performance while occasionally utilizing online resources. Supreme is the most advanced version, dynamically pulling in resources and adapting algorithms for optimal performance. According to Samsung, Gauss 2 can communicate in up to 14 languages and is 1.5 to three times faster than its predecessor, depending on the version.
Paul Kyungwhoon Cheun, President and CTO of Samsung’s Device eXperience (DX) Division, emphasized Gauss 2’s transformative potential2, stating, “Samsung Electronics is committed to developing cutting-edge software, including AI and data analytics, to enhance user experiences. With three distinct models, Samsung Gauss 2 is already boosting our internal productivity, and we plan to integrate it into products to deliver higher levels of convenience and personalization.”
Internally, Samsung has deployed the Gauss 2 AI model to enhance productivity. More than 60% of the DX division developers utilize the model to assist in coding, text translation, email composition, and document summarization. Additionally, Gauss 2 is used in call centers to categorize and summarize customer interactions effectively.
Although Gauss 2’s features may not immediately revolutionize current devices, Samsung plans to integrate the model into future products. Its capabilities will power popular features like real-time translation, personalized content recommendations, and advanced photo editing tools, elevating user experiences across its ecosystem.
