A new leak has revealed a ton of new details about Samsung’s upcoming mixed-reality headset, including its official name, specs, and a potential fall launch window. According to a report from Android Headlines, the device, codenamed “Project Moohan,” will officially be called the “Samsung Galaxy XR.”
The new headset looks like a direct competitor to Apple’s Vision Pro, but with a few key differences. It’s described as a “marriage” between the Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest Pro, featuring an adjustable headband and a focus on “passthrough” video that lets you see the real world around you.
Inside, the Galaxy XR will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip and will run on Google’s Android XR operating system, with Samsung’s own One UI skin on top. The leak also confirms previous rumors that the headset will feature two super-high-resolution 4K micro-OLED screens, one for each eye.
One of the biggest surprises from the leak is the inclusion of two controllers that look a lot like the ones for the Meta Quest 3. This is a departure from Samsung’s previous demos, which focused on hand-tracking and voice commands.
The battery life is expected to be around two hours, similar to the Vision Pro, but the Galaxy XR will be significantly lighter, weighing in at 545 grams compared to the Apple headset’s 600-plus grams.
All that’s left to know is the price and release date, but it’s not expected to be cheap. Previous rumors have pointed to a price tag somewhere between $1,700 and $2,800.
