Key Points:

  • A retailer listing leaked photos and specs of Sony’s WF-1000XM6 earbuds.
  • The new design features a pill-shaped body in black and white options.
  • Specs confirm an IPX4 water-resistance rating and Active Noise Cancellation.
  • Larger ear tips suggest the new model may offer improved bass performance.

It looks like Sony is finally preparing to release the successor to its popular noise-canceling earbuds. A premature listing from an online retailer has given the world its first clear look at the upcoming WF-1000XM6. The leak, spotted by The Walkman Blog and shared across Reddit, suggests that Sony is making some distinct changes to the design of its flagship audio product.

The retailer, Power Buy, posted photos that show the new earbuds in two classic colors: black and white. The design appears to have shifted away from the rounded shape of the current XM5 model, adopting a slightly more pill-shaped form factor. The charging case, however, seems to stick to a standard, compact design similar to previous generations.

While the listing didn’t reveal every technical detail, it did confirm a few key features. The WF-1000XM6 will reportedly carry an IPX4 water-resistance rating, meaning they can handle sweat and light rain without issue.

As expected for a top-tier Sony product, the buds will feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and transparency modes, allowing users to block out the world or let sound in when needed.

Perhaps the most interesting detail from the leak involves the actual ear tips. The images suggest the tips are slightly larger than those on older models. Audio experts believe this design choice points to a larger air channel within the earbud.

If true, this adjustment could allow for significantly better airflow, resulting in a stronger, punchier bass response. Since small earbuds often struggle to produce deep low-end frequencies, this would be a welcome upgrade for music lovers.

Sony has not yet made an official announcement, so pricing and release dates remain a mystery. However, the timing makes sense. It has been over two years since the release of the WF-1000XM5, leaving fans eager for a refresh. Until Sony confirms the specs, these leaked images offer the best hint at what’s coming next for the audio giant.
