Key Points

  • Thailand has approved four new data center projects totaling $3.1 billion.
  • The investments include large projects from Dubai’s DAMAC Digital and a local investor.
  • The government is also taking steps to speed up $9.2 billion in previously approved but stalled projects.
  • The goal is to boost investor confidence and strengthen Thailand’s position as a digital hub.

Thailand’s Board of Investment announced on Monday that it has approved four new data center projects, totaling $3.1 billion in investment. The board also introduced new measures to help get previously approved projects off the ground.

The newly approved investments include a significant 84-megawatt (MW) data center from Dubai’s DAMAC Digital, valued at 26.7 billion baht. Another large project is a 200-MW hyperscale data center from a local investor, valued at 54.9 billion baht.

In addition to these new projects, the board is taking steps to accelerate stalled investments worth $9.2 billion. This is part of a new initiative the agency started last month to clear bottlenecks and get projects moving.

To help with this, the board has approved six new licenses to reduce delays in key areas. These include ensuring power is available for projects, providing easier access to industrial land, and streamlining the process for obtaining visas and work permits for foreign workers.

BOI chief Narit Therdsteerasukdi said these moves are designed to boost investor confidence in Thailand. “This will strengthen investor confidence in Thailand’s investment framework and contribute to increased employment and broader economic development,” he said.

The focus on data centers underscores Thailand’s ambition to become a regional digital hub, attracting major tech investments and building the infrastructure to support a modern, digital economy.
