Key Points:

  • Amazon Web Services released a new artificial intelligence platform for healthcare.
  • The system handles patient scheduling and insurance checks around the clock.
  • The technology writes clinical notes and summarizes patient medical histories automatically.
  • A special mapping feature links every AI-generated detail directly to original records.

Amazon Web Services introduced a new artificial intelligence platform on Thursday designed specifically for the medical field. The company calls the new tool Amazon Connect Health. The software aims to make scheduling appointments easier for patients while slashing the massive piles of administrative paperwork that overwhelm doctors every day.

The system acts as a smart digital assistant that operates around the clock. When patients call their clinic, the AI can instantly verify their identity and check their insurance coverage. It then looks at the clinic’s schedule and books the appointment right away without putting the patient on hold. If a caller has a complex medical issue, the software smoothly transfers the conversation to a human staff member.

For doctors, the platform connects directly with existing electronic health records. Before a patient even walks into the room, the AI gathers their medical history and builds a clear, easy-to-read summary. This prevents health care workers from wasting valuable time digging through old charts to find relevant information.

During the actual visit, the tool can listen to the conversation between the doctor and the patient. It then transcribes the discussion and automatically drafts clinical notes. After the appointment ends, it suggests the correct billing codes and generates a simple summary that the patient can take home and easily understand.

Amazon knew safety and accuracy would be major concerns for health care providers. To build trust, developers included a feature called evidence mapping. This tool links every single piece of AI-generated text directly back to the original source, like a call transcript or a past medical record. Human doctors also stay in the loop to review and approve the final notes.

Hospitals are already seeing strong results. UC San Diego Health deployed the software and reported saving an average of one minute on every phone call. The clinic also saw its dropped call rate fall by up to sixty percent. Meanwhile, Amazon One Medical has successfully used the documentation tools during more than a million patient visits.
