Apple is reportedly developing a new smart home device, a wall-mounted display designed to control home appliances, interact with Siri, and enable videoconferencing. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, his sources said the device would be ready for announcement as early as March 2025.

This marks Apple’s entry into a growing market led by Google and Amazon. Apple’s new display is expected to resemble a small, square iPad with a 6-inch screen. It features an upper camera, internal speakers, and a rechargeable battery, making it a versatile addition to the Apple ecosystem.

This design closely mirrors existing smart displays, such as the Google Home Hub, introduced in 2018, and Amazon’s Echo Show, which has reached its eighth iteration. These devices have already established a strong foothold in the smart home market, allowing users to control devices, interact with AI assistants, and more.

Apple’s potential advantage lies in its unique integration of Apple Intelligence and the App Intents system, introduced this year. Apple Intelligence, rolling out in late October, incorporates machine learning to enhance Siri’s response accuracy and contextual understanding. Meanwhile, the App Intents system aims to enable AI-driven software control, which could allow users to execute multiple commands and manage different apps more effectively.

Looking ahead, Apple is also reportedly experimenting with future models that could incorporate more advanced features, such as a robotic arm to reposition the display around the home. This ambitious design could distinguish Apple’s smart home device from competitors, enabling it to adapt to various household setups and enhance accessibility.

Although this rumored device is still unannounced, its potential release could strengthen Apple’s presence in the smart home sector, an area the company has previously approached with limited offerings. If Apple succeeds in delivering a unique and powerful user experience, the new smart display could serve as a vital addition to its ecosystem, bridging the gap between users’ homes and their Apple devices.
