France Stocks Reach New Highs as Oil & Gas, Financials Sectors Drive Gains

France stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the CAC 40 index reaching a new all-time high, propelled by gains in the Oil & Gas, Financials, and Utilities sectors. At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 gained by 0.20% or 16.52 to 8,225.80, while the SBF 120 index surged by 0.24% or 14.88 to 6,232.79.

Among the top performers on the CAC 40 was Societe Generale SA (EPA:SOGN), which saw a notable increase of 3.79% or 1.00 points, reaching 27.26 by the close. Additionally, Veolia Environnement VE SA (EPA:VIE) added 2.13% or 0.62 points, closing at 29.66, while Stellantis NV (EPA:STLAM) experienced a gain of 2.12% or 0.45 points, settling at 21.47 in late trade. Conversely, Sanofi SA (EPA:SASY) emerged as one of the worst performers, witnessing a decline of 1.10% or 1.02 points, concluding at 91.69. Following suit, Publicis Groupe SA (EPA:PUBP) fell by 1.07% or 1.15 points, reaching 106.00, while Danone SA (EPA:DANO) experienced a decrease of 1.00% or 0.60 points, closing at 59.40.

On the SBF 120, Eutelsat Communications SA (EPA:ETL) led the gains with a notable increase of 7.21%, followed by Valneva (EPA:VLS), which surged by 6.89%, and Clariane SE (EPA:CLARI), which gained 6.88%. However, Euronext (EPA:ENX) was among the worst performers, declining by 2.54% to 84.30, followed by JC Decaux SA (EPA:JCDX), which lost 1.93% to settle at 21.36, and Biomerieux SA (EPA:BIOX) which fell by 1.80% to 95.25 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange, with 285 advancing, 218 declining, and 98 remaining unchanged. Societe Generale SA (EPA:SOGN) reached 52-week highs. The CAC 40 VIX, measuring the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, remained unchanged at 18.96.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery increased by 0.42% or 9.90, trading at $2,352.90 a troy ounce. Crude oil for June delivery fell by 1.66% or 1.31, reaching $77.81 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract declined by 1.40% or 1.17, trading at $82.19 a barrel.

In the currency market, the Euro to United States Dollar (EUR/USD) pair remained unchanged at 1.08, while the Euro to British Pound (EUR/GBP) pair remained unchanged at 0.86. The US Dollar Index Futures decreased by 0.16% to 104.94.
